Homemade Eggnog

I grew up with my grandmother making homemade eggnog every year. There was such a huge difference from the eggnog she would make and the store bought kind. So, for the longest time I never liked store bought eggnog. I will drink it now but I will make my own at least once during the Christmas season. Below is the recipe and you can see the difference for yourself. I also included some pictures so you can see the process.

Ingredients

  • 6 egg, separated*
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 4 pints milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • Nutmeg

Directions

In a bowl beat the egg yolks with the 1/2 cup of sugar until thick. In another bowl beat the egg whites with 1/4 cup of sugar until thick.

In a third bowl beat the cream until thick.

Add the cream to the yolks, fold in the egg whites,

and add the milk(whole milk works best), vanilla, and a pinch of nutmeg, if desired. Chill in freezer before serving.

I usually pour into a cup and serve with a sprinkle of nutmeg on top. Enjoy!

  1. Megan,
Thanks for the simple eggnog recipe. I'm going to try to whip it up for the holidays, and maybe drink it with the pumpkin roll recipe that I just saw from an earlier post. (:
